History1636. Under the guardianship of Queen Christina, the Swedish government implemented its postal decree in Estonia and Livonia in 1638. The decree read: “We, Christina, by the Grace of God, Sovereign of the Swedes, the Goths and the Wends and the Heiress-Princess /-/ hereby declare that after We have graciously pleased to set up a reliable and regular post in all the provinces across our entire realm /-/ Issued in Our castle, in Stockholm, on 20 February, in the year 1636”. Most important historical events Before 1917, there were 157 post offices and three independent national telephone switchboards on the territory of the Republic of Estonia. On 25 February 1918, the German occupation forces took over the post office in Tallinn and dissolved the postal system as it had existed to that day. More |
